2017 Grand Finals: Masters Women Premiers

In the hardest fought and longest match of the finals, the Masters Women came away with the premiership cup. Here is the match report from Sharyn Tolley:

It was a historic Vets Grandfinal tonight – for the first time ever we played extra time and then went into wobble offs to decide the victors.
We fielded a full side of SOBER players but Falcons were out to win from the outset. At half time the outcome was looking dire with a 0-2 to Falcons score on the board. They scored one more after half time when we came out firing and leveled the score thanks to Ange McDonaldCatherine Fisher & Sherren Latta by full time.
After 20 minutes of extra time with no goal scored, we nominated five players for the wobble off. Strezlecki was ordered out of our goals and replaced by Sherren who also scored our 4th goal in the first contest. Belinda Burke scored our second and Sherren successfully defended all Falcon’s attempts.
BOGS: Sherren, Pettsy Kathryn Petts, Ange.
Well done girls on a most brilliant season.

2017 Grand Finals: Div 1 Men Premiers

After a long drought (2002 was the last win) the Division 1 Men took out the HAW Grand Final in warm conditions. An exciting, hard game against Wodonga, Norths won 3-1. Wodonga scored first, then the men put the pressure back on. At half time, the score was Wodonga 1 – Norths 0 and an inspiring speech by dual coaches Jeremy Payne and Jordan Thorneycroft lifted the blue and white team.

Norths started strongly with a tonne of pressure on Wodonga and a series of precise passes put Ian Beath into the scoring spot. He converted and Norths drew level. Shortly thereafter, Ian scored again with a bobbly bouncy ball off a Wodonga defender’s backside that popped in.

The final goal was a deflection by Larry Simpson off a short corner – a set move practiced often and executed when it really needed to be done.

Norths 3 – 1 victors at the close of play. Jeremy Payne announced as Best on Ground for the final.

2017 Grand Finals: U16 Boys and U16 Girls

Norths had players representing with other clubs during the year. Amber Evans played with Falcons in the U16 Girls final. Sadly they lost to Wodonga. Match reports indicate that Amber played well.

In the U16 Boys, Scots had two Norths players – Oscar Smart and Kurt Beath playing for them. Scots managed a strong win in the final, with Oscar scoring 4 goals in the 5-0 victory. Oscar was awarded the U16 Boys Best & Fairest, sharing it with Brandon Lowe. Kurt is the Scots U16 Boys Best and Fairest for the year. Congratulations to both these players and to the Scots team on a solid victory:

2017 Grand Finals: Div 3 Women Runners Up

The match report from Sharyn Tolley:

Unfortunately CW went down 3-0 in our Grandfinal today. We played a great game but were outclassed by a better team on the day.
No BOGS everyone contributed. Bad luck to Duckie Donna Hemann who was felled by sniper fire in the dying moments of the game. In the process of replacing her on the field Maddog Cate Melville decided to focus all attention on her by taking a hit to the head. Fortunately she sucked it up and played out the game. Duckie has approximately 185 days to repair her hammy😱.

A great effort to even get to the finals.

2017 Grand Finals: Div 3 Men Premiers

The Div 3 Men came away with a big win on Saturday to be Premiers, defeating United 1-0 in extra time. Congratulations to Luke Pontt – Best on Ground.

Representative hockey (Junior and Capital League) and Junior Academy

For 2018 the application form for both Representative hockey and Academy will be done online and need to be submitted by September 30.

If you are a junior and interested in either or both Junior Representative or Junior Academy, please fill in this form – Junior Rep/Academy

If you are a player who is interested in Capital League (you must be 15 or older) then please fill in this form – Capital League

Both forms will require you to fill in an email address and these addresses are where all further correspondence will be sent for the 2018 year – so if you update your email address, please make sure you advise us.
