Twilight 2019

Hi all Clubs,

(BCC: all teams that were registered last year and other interested parties)

Please let your members know that twilight will run again at the end of the season on a Tuesday night. 

Nominations are open and will close on Sunday 6 October.  We need a minimum of 8 teams for the competition to go ahead.   If you are considering putting in a twilight team, please make sure you get it in on time.  No late entries accepted.

Twilight dates will be

15-Oct, 22-Oct, 29-Oct, 05-Nov, 12-Nov, 19-Nov, 26-Nov & 03-Dec

Hockey 8’s for 2019

Hi all clubs and Spitfires teams,

As discussed at our P&S meeting last week, I am seeking at least one representative from each club in order to run our Hockey 8’s tournament for 2019.

A meeting will be held in the clubhouse from 6pm on Monday 26 August.  If you are the person for your club and play in the masters competition on Monday night, please pop in for the first 15 minutes.

A lot of work by a team of people goes into the successful running of Hockey 8’s tournament and it can only take place if there are enough people willing to assist.

Look forward to meeting you all on Monday night.

Quarters and other rules

Hi all clubs,

Please pass this on to your members.

Post our conversation at the P&S the other night about quarters and when the ball is in play, I have spoken to Stirling Sharpe, the Umpire Director in ACT and he has confirmed the following:

·         Between the quarters (2 minutes break) players are not to leave the field of play BUT they can be on the red part of the turf as this is part of the field during play.  They are not to go into the dugouts.

·         After the breaks the umpire is to start the game with the whistle (when the clock is going).  The ball is not deemed in play until the whistle is blown.  Players do not need to be on the field but if they are they are to be at the appropriate end of the field.

·         Once the siren goes at the end of any quarter or half then the ball is dead unless there is a short corner in progress  (So if ball is in mid-air and siren blows then that ball is now a dead ball)

·         For short corners, for Division 1 these are started by the umpire with a whistle.  For all other divisions the umpire will give the all clear for the corner to begin as they first will ensure that the defending team is ready

FHE Cup in Perth Trials

Hi all,

Please find the link attached, for U16 and U18 Boys and Girls to trial for FHE Cup in Perth. Trial date is 14th of July at Greensborough Hockey Club. Time for both age groups to be confirmed but we have booked the ground from 8am to 12pm.

Please pass this on to other players in your hockey clubs.

In light of the recent article in the Border Mail regarding concussion and its affects, it is timely that you are reminded that HAW has concussion guidelines.  They can be found on our web site under Information – Rules and Policies.

Marshals

To all clubs,

Just a reminder to have your marshals organised for the first round.  A big thanks to “Mr Sparkie” who has continued to sponsor the vests for us.

The Marshalls will be in use for the 2019 season from round 1.  Please remember to organise a person for each game that your club is participating in.

The vests will be with:

Albury – at the canteen

Wodonga – at the canteen (or hanging in the umpires dugout)

Corowa – with United

Wangaratta – with Wangaratta

Beechworth – with Beechworth

Please ensure that when the game is finished that they immediately go back to where they came from for the next team to use.

Remember that the Marshals must:

  • be 18 years of age or older;
  • wear the vest as this readily identifies them as your Marshall;
  • walk around the field used throughout the match and ensure they are clearly visible to Spectators, and are in an appropriate spot for monitoring off-field incidents and behaviour
  • the Marshall must, if it is safe to do so, remind spectators  of their obligation to comply with the HAW Code of Behaviour and issue any reasonable direction
  • If any spectator fails to comply with the Marshalls reasonable directions, the Marshal should contact their Club or HAW for further assistance
  • not engage in any verbal or physical altercations
  • not consume alcohol or smoke while acting as a Marshal
  • not, unless it is safe to do so, approach opposition Spectators  behaving inappropriately and must instead approach the opposition Marshall to resolve any issues.

Use of Albury Scoreboards

Hi all,

GROUND 1

The secure place for the scoreboard controller for AHC1 is the small white box in the umpires’ dugout and it has a combination lock.

The code to open it is 429 (which if you look at a mobile keypad, it spells HAW)

Please ensure that:

  • Your managers are aware of the code so they can access the controller for games
  • After the last game of the day, the controller is locked back in the white box and plugged in so it can charge for the next time it is needed.

 

GROUND 2

Today we have had a new scoreboard installed on AHC2.  Unlike AHC1 the scoreboard is attached to the wall via a cord to run (it does not have to be charged.

It is to be put in the box where the controller has always been stored.  At this stage there is no security on the box, but at will change as soon as I can organise it.  The code will be the same as on ground 1

IF YOU ARE THE LAST TEAM AT THE GROUNDS ON A PARTICULAR DAY CAN YOU PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE CONTROLLERS ARE PACKED AWAY AT THE END OF THE DAY AND THE SCOREBORAD IS TURNED OFF – MANY THANKS
